Friday Fun #49 A good book to read.

I know that I have said this before But I think this might actually be for real. I am back and I hope to post more. I my photo hosting site changed and with it's major change over a task that used to be a short process turned into a time consumer that I had no desire to put up with. I have since changed a setting and it is back to a shorter process that I will not feel is sucking the life out of me. So here's hoping I am back to more regular posting. Now on to the post at hand.

Suzie and I have finished reading her first chapter book. Or maybe what I should say is I finished reading it to her. I have tried a few times to read a larger book to her to no avail. Every time we'd get to a page that had a picture on it she could not "hear" what I was reading if it did not immediately pertain to what was visually in front of her.

But this time I took a few precautions through out the weeks of reading it to her. In the past I would have read her the first chapter and then she would have taken the book to her quiet time and spent the hours to come mulling over the visuals.

She would have the entire book memorized in little snippets of drawings. We would get to the page with any given drawing and she would already have a list as long as my arm of questions as to what was happening.

She could not focus on what I was reading because it was not answer her questions instantaneously. So this time I took out Charlotte's Web and would not allow her to study the book.

Each time we turned the page and a scene appeared in ink she would ask "What's happening there?" and I would tell her to listen. "You will find out if you listen to the words that I read".

And she would sit with a studying look. Kind of like this one. I knew that she was paying attention when the Goose and all the other barn animals start to call out directions to Wilbur after his escape. Mr. Zuckerman and Lurvy are chasing him around the apple trees and the goose is really excited about the chase. I could tell by her reaction that she was seeing it in her minds eye.

And this was kind of her reaction.

I look forward to sharing many more books with this dear little one who is growing up so fast.

And to see her imagination opening up. It often seems to me that she is much more analytical than a lot of kids I know. That she has only learned in the last half year or so how to make believe. And even when she does she is certain to inform you that it is "Just for pretend".

She has no trouble dancing about and singing her head off with strange words that she is making up on the fly though. So I guess the imagination is just not what I expected.

It is safe to say that she knows how to play. And she can talk for all the day straight till she sleeps. In fact I think even before her eyes are fully open in the morning the words start to flow.

And so I want to encourage her vocabulary. And what better way at this time in her life than to read. To open her world up and to show her there is so much to explore. And so we have started into the world of chapter books. And so now to purchase the next book on the list. The problem is that I do not know what is next on the list.

Till then we will head into the world of Beatrix Potter. First little friend we met today was Peter Rabbit in his little blue jacket and tiny black shoes.

This past weekend we spent some time out with Paul's parents. (In fact that is where all the pictures from this post were taken). For the first time I attempted to take pictures of all the birds and I found that my telephoto lens is better than I had known.

I capture moments that I had never thought possible for me. Little Chickadees in their home.

And these two feeding in peace.

Till they are interrupted by the black and white wonder, The chickadee.

Off they go and leave him to is stolen goods.

And here are a few more pics of farm exploration.

"Moo, Moo!!"

And there you have a bit of life this past weekend.
I really hope to stick to a few more posts than have been taking place. As I said in the start I know I have said this before but I do so hope with this simple change that will change a frustrating task to a more simple one that I might be more inclined to be here more often.

Here's to you on this next weekend to come. Enjoy the days, enjoy the hours. The minutes of simple pleasures and also of hard work. There are great things to observe and take part in all around us.

Friday Fun # 48 The snow that won't stop

Last week we had a snow dumping of great proportions and on the weekend we enjoyed the fruits of the sky's labors.

My cousin has this great bit of land full of great woods and a stream in the summer. But in the winter?

That is when this spectacular hill with it's more than spectacular view is best enjoyed

(okay fine I don't know if winter is the best time to enjoy this hill. It does have a great view for summer viewing too maybe just best for sledding and snowboards in the winter.)

But here is what I am getting at. See? FUN!!

More fun!!

It is a bit of work to get to the top for all the enjoyment that will ensue but it is worth the work.

See I rode too. I am not much for jumps lest I break a bone. But I do so love the feeling of floating down the hill side.

Here's the great thing about all of this. There is more coming down this minute. Plenty more. So what was packed and melted away since last week is being replaced. I may have to make another short trip out to a cousin of mines yard that I know about.

Friday Fun #47 Green Monster

Ha Ha Ha, I had this post as a draft with no title and had forgotten what was in here. I think it will do nicely as a Friday Fun Post and so here she is.

Friday Fun Green Paint Style

As of late when I turn the camera on Suzie and ask her to smile I usually get this. I struggle with this reaction. I want so badly to share her great smile with the world and yet I can't seem to get it out of her. For two reasons. The first is what I have already mentioned and the second is that if I go for a candid shot there are too many legs and arms on this one girl to get a clear, focused shot of her smile. And so I give you Suzie's pose.

Jade started to eat the paint that is when I stopped videoing, the first time, then I made sure I caught it on video the second time.

Who said the fun had to end when they got in the tub?

This was actually a bit of fun that was had a while back but I couldn't pass up the great green fiasco.

Tonight we set the clocks forward. We lose an hour of sleep and all the mothers out there ask. I am often confused when it comes to time change. Is this the "good" one or the "bad" one? This is the one where you wake up an hour earlier when the alarm goes off but the kids wake up an hour later cause they only wake when their internal clock goes off. Is this good or bad? Bed time might be harder but mornings might be better.

What is your opinion? I know for a fact if they just left the time alone I would be good with that. Let the sun come up when it wants to. Don't confuse the world with all your clock changing. Now the mornings will be darker. "Yeah but your evenings will be brighter". Well what if I liked my mornings where they were? I guess my personal feelings don't count I guess my clock is ruled by the greater consensus.

And now on to the rest of my evening and the weekend that is half over. And a time change I don't what to think of. But life goes on right? Of course it does. Give me a week and I will come to some conclusion about how great this new time is and half a year from now I will be confused all over again. Till then, happy time change to you all.

Friday Fun #46 read a book

Hello Friday, I've missed you. I know you were here last week but I had kind of forgotten about you. I guess life as been so busy, what with Saturday being such a drag and all. It seems as though it is trying to be you. It is a day of work and not the day off that it once was. So here you are left in the lurch. It's okay, your roll in our lives as the last day before a day off will return again, until then let me show you that your are still a welcome part of our week.

FRIDAY FUN!!

See I even all capped you in that last bit there. That means I am shouting it out. I still like you.

My girls read books.

Well actually Suzie goes through them and repeats the entire thing to the best of her memory. I am impressed at how much she remembers after just one reading.

And Jade flips pages.

Points out things like Bums and babies.

But how ever they "read" the books they sure do love to. And I love this love that is growing in them. I want a house packed with books. But for now I will work on the few that we have and grow my library as best I can.

Happy Friday all. I do so hope this weekend is full of fun and relaxation and joy and love and light and.....
You get the idea. Go Have a good one!!

Friday Fun #45 Fall and the KCWC

Here is a quick post as in mostly pictures with a few words.

Like I said back there. A few words will go along with this post.

Yeah you see that big thing. That is something really cool

See. It's big and can drive and...

It helps up replace a window in the apartment building we are working on.

Hmm. Did I not mention that. I mean that it is an apartment building? Oh I can't remember. Whenever I call it the "project" my family and friends all know what I mean. But there are those of you that read this that do not know every detail of my life. I forget this. So if you ever have any questions as to what I really mean about certain things please feel free to ask.

Anyhow what I really came here for today was this little walk that the girls and I took before the weather turned nasty. It is now teasing us with tiny bits of frozen ice crystal type things that some are calling snow but I feel it is too early to call out such horrors. We have not even seen Halloween yet. I will call it snow when it actually leaves a blanket on the ground. It does not have to be much of a blanket but I must be able to point it out in the land scape to my girls.

Oh this... I finely know for a fact that I have photo evidence of this stance. This pose. This way she goes about studying the world. She has done this from the day she first discovered her arms. I mean, laying on her belly and not even able to roll over to her back yet she would throw her arm back there and just "relax". She will walk around the yard with her arms behind her back as she takes in the scenes about her. And now for some great fun, Her little sister thinks this is the thing to do so she will follow her while holding her hands behind her own back. The two of them studying life with their arms in place.

Little sister thinks there is nothing in the world quite like her big sister.

A few pumpkins from Paul's parents farm sit out on the front steps.

They are much enjoyed.

Suzie will sit with any large book, including the phone book, and ask me if I am listening. She will then proceed with the reading of the story of Bartimaeus. He was a blind man who received his sight from Jesus.

If you ever get a chance to hear her rendition I highly recommend it.

"Mom this looks like a tree".

And to top it all off I am working hard around the house while still trying to get ready for this next week.

I am taking part in a sewing project for one week. It is one week of sewing for one hour a day on clothes for the kids. For my own kids. Not to sell. Not to give away. But for my own girls to wear. My Suzie is in need of pants and my Jade is in need of a sweatshirt or two. Lets see what one hour a day can put out.

For more check out this link here.

Hope your weekend is full of family and love. There is not much fall left here for us before the cold really takes over. Already the world shows more of it's nakedness till it will be covered in a cozy white blanket. Soon my Older Brother and his family will be here as they are moving back to from the west. Happy Thanks Giving to all my Canadian family and loved ones.
