The rainy day

So today was a "wonderfully" rainy day. It would depend on who you ask if you are to get the statement of wonderful to the rain. For Paul and I it was a bit of a damper on our plans (yes I mean that literally). We had planned on building our fence, but with so much water coming down that was not going to happen.

I decided to take this as an opportunity to bake some bread. I don't care to bake when the weather is hot so a rainy day is perfect for baking. I thought it might be fun to actually take pictures of the process and why not add the recipe as this bread has become a subject of interest amongst my family.

Here is the start of it.

3 cups cooked red river cereal

2 cups warm water, I use cooler water cause I don't like to wait for the cereal to cool.

2 tsp. salt
1/4 cup honey

1/4 cup oil

1 Tbsp. mustard seed

mix

I use about 4 cups of whole wheat flour, Suzie likes to help.

2 Tbsp. yeast

Then I finish off the dough with white flour till it pulls away from the bowl.

Change from paddle

to the dough hook

feed Suzie cheerios while adding flour

She offers some to me

Place in greased bowl and cover, let rise.

separate into three loaves

Place in greased pans (grease well, I failed to do so with one pan and had a miserable time getting it out).

Let rise

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes. Enjoy!!!

After that bake cookies cause they are also nice to have in the house. They can't even finish cooling before they become greatly enjoyed.

  1. those are some little cookies for that big mitt! I've never heard of putting mustard in bread, but hey, worth a try! Looks like you had a good day.
